Tom's Sugar Shack Maple Syrup
Tom’s Sugar Shack, located in Nipissing First Nation, has been producing high-quality maple syrup for 15 years. What began with 50 taps has grown into an operation with 5,500 taps, offering syrup, sugar, and maple candies. Visitors are welcome to tour the sugar shack and learn about the traditional process of making maple products, a timeless practice rooted in Indigenous culture.
Black Duck Wild Rice
For nearly 40 years, Black Duck Wild Rice has restored wild rice in Curve Lake First Nation. Inspired by Harold Perry’s story, James Whetung began replanting traditional rice beds in 1982. With guidance from elders, he focused on Pigeon Lake, his grandfather’s harvesting grounds, and continues to revitalize ecosystems and Anishinabek food sovereignty today.
Sweetgrass Basket by Talking Turtle Baskets
Kimberly White, owner of Talking Turtle Baskets, creates traditional sweetgrass and black ash baskets in the Mohawk Territory of Akwesasne. Known for her exquisite craftsmanship, Kimberly also offers virtual and in-person workshops, teaching the art of basket weaving.
